Incorporate the Real Life Issues

Seamlessly Incorporating the Real Life Issue(s) into Classes Across the K-12 Curriculum Consistent with Class Objectives and State Common Core Standards

There are many ways that real life issues can be readily incorporated into classes across the K-12 curriculum consistent with class learning objectives and state common core standards. For example:

• Study of the biology and chemistry of drugs, the physiology of the coronavirus and physiological responses to violence can be readily incorporated into high school and middle school science classes.
• Learning about the destructive impact of the coronavirus, bullying, social ostracism, substance abuse and problematic use of social media can be integrated into middle and high school social studies classes.
• Work with survey data on violence, substance abuse and the coronavirus can be infused into the curriculum of middle and high school math courses.
• Reading literature and writing reflection papers on social ostracism, bullying, violence, substance abuse and the coronavirus fits the curriculum of many middle and high school language arts and English classes.
• Reading about and discussing the adverse effects of substance abuse, violence, bullying and social ostracism can be part of curriculum of elementary and middle school reading, health and social studies classes. Skills in decision making, disengagement and resistance to peer pressure and bullying can be developed and strengthened through role playing activities and other active learning techniques
